In The First Month

People usually talk about being hit with the hard realities of parenthood after they finally get that baby home from the hospital and the family and friends finally leave for their own homes. It wasn't really that way for us. It was summer, so we didn't have to get up in the mornings and Evan was a really good baby. He didn't fuss unless he was hungry or gassy and those were always easily remedied by nursing or mylicon. He was a bit of pain when he nursed at night that first month because he was so sleepy and the milk wouldn't come fast enough. He's still not patient when it comes to food, but as he learned to nurse the feedings got easier.

  • Well, it wasn't all easy. We did take a lot of naps.

  • During that first month I'd often stay up late or get up early to let Kim sleep if Evan was fussy. Then, we she got up, I'd go take a nap. Evan and I usually watched rugby in those wee hours. This is Evan and I posing in our All Blacks best, the All Blacks being the national rugby team of New Zealand.

  • Just another photo of me and Evan letting Kim sleep.

  • Evan has always liked being bathed. He just didn't like being out of the water after the bath. We had to get him wrapped up in the towel quickly to keep him from screaming.

  • Evan was even good for his first doctor's visit. He didn't even cry when he got stuck for his first vaccinations.

  • This was the first time Evan met Hank. It was also his first trip to a Thai restaurant.
